Hatha: “Hatha Yoga is known as the branch of Yoga that unites pairs of opposites referring to the positive (sun) and negative (moon) currents in the system.”- Swami Sivananda Radha. Expand your practice in this mixed level course – an eclectic blend of yoga styles that when combined together help you to achieve a healthy balance of body and mind.
Vinyasa: The Sanskrit term Vinyasa can be broken down into its roots to assist in decoding the meaning. Nyasa denotes ‘to place’ and videnotes ‘in a special way’. By linking bodily movement with breath, finding the balance between strength and flexibility becomes much more natural. Using specific contractions helps to speed the metabolism as the body grows warm, allowing a more comfortable and deeper stretch while strengthening your entire body.
Instructors
Airam Mason - In her classes, the emphasis is on blending movement and breath and on precision of form. We work to cultivate stillness and presence within the difficulty, or ease, of the poses. Her classes are strong, yet lighthearted; they support a balance between playfulness and purpose, between effort and surrender. Influences are rooted in the Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Anusara and Iyengar traditions. She received her Ashtanga teacher certification from David Swenson in 2004 and is fully engaged with expanding her knowledge and experience of yoga. Her joy in teaching yoga is born out of admiration and respect for students’ commitment to the practice; it’s born out of the beauty and grace she sees as students explore and open the body while working with the breath with the simple purpose of quieting the mind.
Grace Duckworth - Yoga has transformed my life is so many ways that it would take me pages and pages to list each one. Therefore, I will do my best to give the short story.
My life has done a complete 180 – I have gone from anxiety stricken and incredibly depressed (literally losing my hair) to absolutely enjoying every chance in life that is given to me. In the past I was unhealthy; I dealt back and forth with eating disorders and was cruel to my body. Now I am a yoga instructor, a personal trainer and have a large interest in exploring other aspects of health and wellness. I am happier with myself, I love my body and I try new things; where as in the past I was too afraid of failing to give something new a chance. Now I wake up everyday ready to engage in a holistic and yogic lifestyle.
One of my proudest accomplishments was learning to truly listen and understand my body. When I began to approach health in a positive mind set, rather than negative (pushing myself past the line of what “healthy” should be) positive changes just began to happen in all aspects of my life. Good choices turned into common sense. It was no longer difficult to understand what I needed to do in order to help myself physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
I will forever be grateful to yoga and what it has done for me. That incredible change is what made me want to help change the lives of so many others.
Mallory Lutz - Yoga saved me from a mundane life. I have always loved all aspects of finding a healthy life, trying anything and everything from dance to basketball to diving always getting bored and moving on. Then I found yoga and Pilates. Yoga brought me back to myself, allowing me to rediscover all of my Malloryness that life had worn away. Pilates on the other hand got me in the best shape of my life just in time for my beach wedding in July 2011. I encourage everyone to come and try a new class, step onto the mat and outside yourself. It might just change your life!
